Expecting only 20,000, over 100,000 fans traveled from all over the world for "The Last Dispatch" concert
This is too good to pass up. Maybe my favorite band ever, Dispatch, is giving away all 4 of their CDs for free, all you have to do is tweet about it, facebook it, and email a few people. If you're not sure if you're a fan of Dispatch, do it anyway, and get them. They are the biggest band in independent music history. The studio albums aren't as good as the live albums, but they are pretty solid. HOWEVER, the coolest part about this, is that they are going on another reunion tour this summer. I will be attending, and if anyone wants to come with me, please do. www.dispatchmusic.com to get all the music
The Klaxons are about as big as a band can get before they are mainstream. That might change soon. The released a free EP called Landmarks of Lunacy. Usually it's the rappers giving out free music, but it seems to be catching on.
Yesterday was Jim Morrison's birthday. Sorry I forgot, Jimmy, but this man was amazing. One of my favorite people ever. His music was amazing, and he can predict the future. What? Predict the future? Yeah, check out this video, plus one of my favorite Doors songs.
These guys rock pretty hard. I saw a flyer for The Crash Kings about two years ago. I didn't make it to the concert, but I checked out their music. The bands a set of two brothers and they've been rocking the west coast for a while now. The reason I brought this up now is because I saw this video on MTV2, so look out for these guys in the future.
Maybe you'll like this one Uncle Pete? It's some blues-rock by a great duo, The Black Keys. I've been listening to this since I first heard it, and once again, It's produced by Danger Mouse. What doesn't this guy do? This is music in highest quality. If you don't like this, I don't know what's wrong with you. Maybe nothing, but probably something.
This is one of their 6 albums, all worth listening to. This one is great though, because Danger Mouse's production value really shows. If you don't know who Danger Mouse is, google it, because he's worked on some good stuff. All of the Black Key's music is wonderful, but start with this album.
The sound of it is unmatched. Not many albums are this appealing. So, sit back, relax, and just enjoy the greatness that is this album. (Even though they are from the worst state ever)
Album review #2? I think so. This album is the self-titled album Broken Bells. The band is made up of the legendary Danger Mouse and the guitarist and singer of The Shins, James Mercer. An amazing artist from one of the great bands of our time, with one of the greatest producers ever, if you ask me, makes Broken Bell's debut album a must listen.
I first heard about this around the time it came out from my buddy Wade. What's good Wade? I was surprised that so many people haven't heard this, especially people that are Danger Mouse fans. It seems that it slipped under the radar a little bit somehow.
Well, I'm here to tell you that this album is something you should listen to, no matter who you are. If you're a fan of Danger Mouse or The Shins, you'll love this. Even if you're a fan of The Black Keys (foreshadow) or a hip-hop head, I think you can appreciate this.
They also had 4 young kids listen to every song and critique it. Definitely entertaining to watch. I wish I was one of them. (video below)
How about some Rock n Roll? This band Cage The Elephant said in an interview they they play whatever they feel like playing. They weren't lying. Most of the stuff I've listened to from them sounds great, finally some good rock because I really hate some of the rock people listen to now. All I've really heard from Elephant is the songs they make music videos for, I checked out a live show, not for me. So here's a little taste.
Staying with the reggae theme, Mighty Mystic was an artist I recently came across. He grew up in Jamaica but now lives in Boston. Wicked Cool. His new CD, probably not his first is called Wake Up The World. I absolutely love it. It's got a hip-hop feel and some bars mixed in with great reggae music.
So in case you didn't know, I think Ziggy Marley is more awesome that Barney Stinson. Anyone get that? Maybe? No? Whatever. Well for those of you that live under a rock, Ziggy Marley is one of Bob's sons. He has like 30 so it's not that amazing, but his music is. He's being real awesome now too because he's giving away new singles for free on his website. http://www.ziggymarley.com/music-discography-wildandfree.php This is his second one called A Fire Burns For Freedom.
Also, +1 to Ziggy for being bros with the President.
So you have probably heard this song called Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, either from the NFL commercial that I love, or just because this song is awesome.
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home
Well, this post ain't about that song, well it kinda is, but this band made a 12-part music video movie thing called Salvo. As far as I know, only 2 parts have been released, but let me tell you, this thing is going to be fucking sweet. That's all I really know about it. If part 3 ever comes out, I'll let you know.
Seriously, watch these.
Guess who's back. Me.
DJ MJ is also joining the team. What kind of dumb name is that?
Well this band Anchorless is from Copenhagen. You probably haven't heard them before unless you live in Europe or something, but I just downloaded their LP for free HERE. (Click on it fool) They remind me a little bit of Modest Mouse. Whatever, just listen to it and see if you like it.
Well, one of my favorite musicians ever is playing in the area tonight and I'm not going. And yes, I am upset about it.
My Donavon Frankenreiter CD was in my car's CD player as long as I was driving it. It is actually probably still in there because my dad doesn't really know how to work the thing. This guy makes music everyone can enjoy. He's like a funkier version of Jack Johnson, not to mention they are great friends and make lots of music together. This guys also got mad flow and a fat lip caterpillar (mustache ride anyone?). I just can't help but love this guys music, and I'm sure you will find the same thing.
Below are two songs, one off of his CD Move By Yourself and the other was his first hit song that you've all probably heard but never realized it with Jack called Free.
Anyone have an extra ticket for tonight by any chance? I'd love you forever.

I got another good one coming up next, stay tuned.... Don't feel like writing it up now.
First of all, I might take a break from this to move to a bigger, better hosting site. Idea credited to Chris Ostrowski because I still don't really know what I'm doing.
Second, this band called Mariage Blanc is not well know. Well, not really known at all, but get to know them. A very full sounding bands that I've been jamming out to a lot lately. It's one of those band that you're convinced you've heard before, but you really haven't. Or maybe you have? It's not my job to say, just my job to listen, and I'm pretty good at it.
